Participants included 90 LAUNCH students, superintendents of Elmbrook and Wauwatosa school districts, LAUNCH administrators and teachers, and leaders from partnering businesses

BROOKFIELD, WI (September 30, 2019) — Concurrency, Inc., a leading business and technology professional services firm, was honored to host last Thursday’s grand opening of LAUNCH’s new space on the second floor of Concurrency’s headquarters building in Brookfield.

Local business leaders joined student participants in the LAUNCH experiential learning high school program to inaugurate their new learning space—alongside LAUNCH program staff, school board members and the superintendents of the Elmbrook and Wauwatosa school districts. Dr. Robert Hall, Executive Director of LAUNCH, cut the ceremonial ribbon in a celebration of the program’s long-term home and its explosive growth.

Concurrency and more than 50 other businesses are providing hands-on project-based learning opportunities to this year’s class of over 350 LAUNCH students. Kate Weiland, Chief People Officer at Concurrency, set the stage for the day’s events when she described the “serendipitous” series of events that led from her daughter’s own participation in LAUNCH to Concurrency’s corporate participation in the program and now to LAUNCH taking space in Concurrency’s headquarters.

“Collaboration is at the heart of our culture and we couldn’t be prouder to welcome the LAUNCH students and staff to their new space,” stated Weiland. “We’ve been proud to partner with LAUNCH since its founding, providing technology-focused learning opportunities as we look to develop next-generation talent for our company and the broader business community.”

Event speakers also included students who shared from their program experiences and both district superintendents. “What we’re doing here is really different,” said Dr. Mark Hansen, Superintendent of Schools for the Elmbrook district. “We’re building an ecosystem to combat brain drain,” he said, as well as helping students “power up as they finish high school, not power down.”

LAUNCH’s new space is on the second floor of Concurrency’s headquarters. In a literal application of the desire to break down walls between students and businesses, the multi-disciplinary learning space is separated from Concurrency’s own offices by floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

LAUNCH was first initiated by the Elmbrook School Board in late 2015 and welcomed its first class of students in the fall of 2017. The program has now expanded to include more than 350 students and over 50 business partners. Learn more at http://launch.yourcapsnetwork.org/.
